Day 90: To Choose

This was an experiment. I chose a word that I saw on a poster on a classroom wall, and decided to make a list of all the words that I could think of that rhymed with that word. I wanted to see if I could take that list and build it into a coherent poem. I got about 90% of the list in, and I think the poem, while not great, works. So I'm calling the experiment a success. :-)

To Choose
By Batsheva 3/1/10

Since we climbed out of the ooze
Humankind began to choose

To accept
Or to refuse
To compete
If win or lose
To cheer
Or merely shout out boos
To be sweet
Or to abuse
To be silent
Or accuse
To forgive
Or curse a bruise
To cheat
Or rightly pay the dues
To preach
Or sit within the pews
To hush
Or rush to spread the news
To douse the flame
Or light the fuse
To space out
Or follow cues
To go barefoot
Or wear shoes
To teetotal
Or drink booze
To depress
Or to amuse
To celebrate
Or sing the blues
To give up
Or look for clues
To live as singles
Or in twos
And learn new
Skills and tools to use

So do not ask,
"The choice is whose?"
For all of us
Are forced to choose.
