Day 94: School

A note about the poems for days 93 and 94: They both represent conversations between two different entitites (not the same entities in both poems). If I were writing this in Word, or by hand, I would represent the different voices by indenting the second voice, so that each voice would be in its own column. Unfortunately, when I tried to do that here, it didn't work. Regarding this poem--I actually had a very similar conversation with a middle school student once. It didn't rhyme though. :-)

School
By Batsheva 3/5/10

School's so boring

Well, why are you here?

'Cause I have to be

That much is clear
But tell me,
What would you do instead?

I'd sleep all day
In my cozy bed

But then at night
You'd be awake

Then I'd play games
For Heaven's sake

Is that really all
You want to do?

No, I do have
A goal or two
To become a star
Is my greatest dream
Or maybe play
On a pro-sports team

So tell me then
Do you believe
That your goals
You can achieve
By wasting time
In bed all day
Or goofing off
At video play?

What you have said
Does make some sense
But school's really just
Much too intense

School can be tough
I know that's true
But sometimes tough
Is good for you
Tough helps you strive
To reach your goals
So you know how
To pay the tolls
That you will find
Along the road
For a dream's not something
You are owed
You must with total passion burn
To discover
And to learn
All the things
You need to know
That's school's job
It helps you grow
And gets you
Closer to your dreams
And even if
It sometimes seems
To be just
A tad bit boring
Do well in school
And you'll be soaring!
