Day 213 (delayed): You are Here

You Are Here
By Batsheva 7/2/10

Once upon a time
I came upon a sign
That said, "You are here"
And I asked that sign
In a voice quite clear,
"Are you talking to me?"
The sign said, "You are here"
And I said, "I know I'm here
Where else would I be?"
The sign said, "You are here"

We went on like that
For quite a bit
'Til I started to get
Rather tired of it
So I walked about 10 feet away
And yelled at that sign,
"Now what do you say?"
The sign said, "You are here"
And I ran back, pointing,
"No! I'm over there!"
But I wasn't there
Not anymore
So I sat right down upon the floor
And cried and cried
'Cause no matter how very hard I tried
Even if I stayed all year
I couldn't make it stop
Saying, "You are here"

And even today
Wherever I go
I think of that sign
And wouldn't you know
Somehow it's now mine
And it cheers me to hear
Its constant words
Telling me
I am here

  1. Curious. A poem about maturity? At least that's how it reads to me...the subject is young in the beginning and older in the end and has come to understand a deeper meaning.
