Following a recipe's an easy thing to do
But when you do it carefully
You can't make something new
You'll make a dish exactly
As someone's made it before
And if that's what you want
That's great
But I want something more
I'll read a bunch of recipes
To get ideas and clues
For how to choose ingredients
And different ones to use
I read so many cookbooks
To learn new cooking styles
But when I'm in my kitchen
I must do my own trials
Sometimes it's great
Sometimes it's not
Sometimes it's simply fine
But no matter what I make
I know it's truly mine
